About MrD's Mathsmate
An online maths tutor for Victorian secondary students, built by a teacher who got tired of answers without working out.
MrD's Mathsmate is a maths study companion for students in Years 7 to 12 in Victoria, Australia. It is designed around the way maths is actually taught and assessed here: questions are answered with complete, line-by-line working out aligned to the Victorian Curriculum and the VCE study designs, so a student can follow the reasoning and learn the method rather than copying a final answer.
Students can type a question, photograph a page from a textbook or worksheet, or speak the problem out loud. The app then explains each step, and the same engine powers generated practise tests with printable worked solutions, study cards, mind maps, formula sheets and a maths dictionary. Around all of that sit topic calculators, a TI-Nspire guide, drag-and-drop activities, puzzles and games, plus progress badges that make regular practise a bit more rewarding.
The app is made for secondary students who want help at the kitchen table on a Sunday night, for parents who want to support their child without re-learning Year 11 Methods, and for teachers who want a quick way to generate extra practise questions and worked examples for their classes. Everything that does not need AI, the calculators, formula sheets, dictionary, activities and games, is free to use, and the AI features start with a free allowance so students can try before committing.
MrD's Mathsmate is built and maintained by MrD, a practising Victorian secondary school maths teacher, working with AI-assisted development tools. It is an independent study aid: it is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to VCAA, any school or any education department, and it is not a replacement for a student's own teacher. Answers are generated by AI and can be wrong, so the app always encourages students to check the working against their textbook and their teacher.
